Napier
This is 'the' Art Deco place in New Zealand. Place got destroyed in a massive earthquake in 1932, and was rebuilt in just under 2 years, using the modern style's of the time, ie Art Deco, and 'thankfully' it has changed little since then.
Has a lovely beach of black shale. So while everything seems a little strange, and time shifted, it all somehow fits.
Oh, and this region is famous for its wine growing.
So went on a guided tour about the architecture in the morning, and a wine tasting tour in the afternoon.
Can't remember much about the architecture. Have vague memories of visiting 4 vin yards and having 3 white, 3 red and a pudding wine at each one, (28 glasses of wine if you're counting). Okay they weren't big glasses, but they soon add up.
Mike, Yvonne and a Japanese couple. Yvonne and the Japanese lady had a little sip of each and dumped the rest. Mike and the Japanese man drunk the lot. They ordered 3 cases, we had 2 bottles, lol...
Stayed at one if the few buildings to have survived the earthquake. An 1896 colonial style wooden structure. Room would have cost a small fortune if it was in a hotel. Airbnb is a great little app/idea. Works all over the world. If you decide to travel, give it a go.
Off to Wellington tomorrow. Leave you with some pictures...
Art Deco buildings, on the beach, where we stayed.
